St. Louis, Mo. – Billiken Sports Center
THE BASICS
--Elizabeth Everingham drove in three runs, including two in a four-run seventh inning, and Saint Louis rallied for a 6-5 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over Saint Joseph's Sunday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center.
--Saint Louis improved to 20-23 overall and 10-7 in the A-10 with its fourth consecutive win. Saint Joseph's slipped to 16-22-1, 4-10-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
--Saint Joseph's struck for two runs in the top of the first inning.
--Saint Louis cut the Hawks' lead in half with a two-out run in the third. Everingham collected her first RBI of the day with a single.
--The Billikens tied it in the fifth on Mackenzie Peter's solo home run. It was Peter's school-record 12th homer of the season, breaking the mark set last year by Alex Nickel.
--Saint Joseph's answered with three runs, two of them unearned, in the sixth to take a 5-2 lead.
--Peter was hit by a pitch with two outs in the seventh, breaking a string of seven consecutive batters retired by Saint Joseph's pitching.
--That was followed by Emma Buckles' double – her third hit of the day – and Everingham's two-run single that made it a 5-4 game.
--Brianna Lore kept the rally alive with a single, and Allie Macfarlane's single scored pinch runner Miranda Cotton with the tying run.
--Following a pitching change, Alyssa Tarquinio hit a ground ball that was mishandled by the shortstop, allowing pinch runner Brittany Durant to scamper home from third base with the winning run.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
--Maddie Baalman registered her fifth win of the season. Baalman inherited a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the sixth and allowed just one of the inherited runners to score before retiring the side in order in the seventh.
UP NEXT
