SETTING THE SCENE
– Saint Louis plays completes its exhibition season with a pair of home matches this weekend at Hermann Stadium.
– The Billikens host Lipscomb on Saturday in a 5 p.m. kickoff at Hermann Stadium. Wash. U. is the opponent on Sunday in a match that begins at 7 p.m.
– The Billikens' regular-season opener is set for next Friday (Aug. 24) at Notre Dame. He regular-season home opener is against Memphis on Sunday, Aug. 26, at 5 p.m. at Hermann Stadium.
ABOUT THE BILLIKENS
– SLU returns 19 players from last year's squad, which went 7-9-1 overall and 4-4 in Atlantic 10 Conference play. The Billikens' roster features 11 new faces.
– Lennart Hein, an A-10 first-team All-Conference pick last season, led SLU in scoring in 2017 with five goals. Leo Novaes was second to Hein in total points (nine) and led the Billikens in assists with five.
– The Billikens are in their first season under new head coach Kevin Kalish, an All-American as a member of SLU's squads in 1997 and 1998. He is embarking on his seventh season as a collegiate head coach. Kalish previously served six seasons as head coach at SIU Edwardsville, posting a 49-46-16 record there from 2008-13.
– Saint Louis played to a 1-1 draw at Kentucky last Sunday in its exhibition opener.
ABOUT THE BISONS
– Lipscomb went 11-8-2 a season ago and won the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament.
– The Bisons qualified for their first-ever NCAA Men's Soccer Championship in 2017.
– Lipscomb returns three of its top five goal scorers from 2017, including forward Logan Paynter. The senior striker finished second in the league last season with nine goals and 23 points.
ABOUT THE BEARS
– Washington University finished 7-7-2 a season ago.
– Senior Ryan Sproule led the Bears last year in scoring with seven goals and three assists for 17 points.
– The Bears are coached by Joe Clarke, a SLU alum and former Billikens head coach from 1983-96.
