THE BASICS
• Saint Louis won their seventh match in a row Friday night, defeating George Mason in five sets. The Billikens improve to 13-8 on the season, 7-1 in conference play.
• With the loss, George Mason falls to 4-16 on the year, 0-8 in the Atlantic 10.
• With her 50th assist in set five of the match, junior S Kennedy Cordia moved to sixth all-time in SLU's history with 2,320 career assists. She finished the night with 58.
• Senior Sien Gallop collected a career-high 27 kills, also marking a Billikens season-high.
FIRST SET
In a set that George Mason had the lead throughout, with the exception of a brief tie by Saint Louis, the Billikens fought off two set points at 24-21, but the Patriots won the frame 25-23.
SECOND SET
Cordia led off the set with service aces on two of the first three points, putting SLU up 3-0. The Billikens extended their lead to 9-2, forcing the Patriots to call timeout. Saint Louis held leads at 13-8 and 19-14, before the Patriots pulled within two at 20-18. SLU never surrendered the lead and took the second set 25-22.
THIRD SET
George Mason jumped out to an early 6-1 lead, eventually extending it to 10-5 and 13-8. At 18-13, the Billikens used a 7-2 run to tie things at 20. Saint Louis took six of the last 10 points and won the game 26-24.
FOURTH SET
It was a tight game early, with back-and-forth scores all the way through 12-12. George Mason pulled ahead at 17-14 and 21-16, eventually taking the fourth frame 25-19 and forcing a fifth set.
FIFTH SET
The Patriots took the early lead at 4-2, but SLU came back to tie it at 6, 7, 8 and 9. George Mason held a 13-11 lead late, but the Billikens grabbed five of the last six points and won the set 16-14 and the match 3-2.
NOTABLE
• Cordia recorded her 15th double-double on the year, recording 58 assists, 25 digs, three service aces and two kills.
• Gallop collected a career-high 27 kills, along with three digs.
• Sophomore Cayce Chaykowsky was second on the team with 17 digs, along with three assists.
• Lauren Mershon tallied nine kills and eight total blocks.
• Juliana Phillips recorded 14 kills, one service ace, five digs and five total blocks.
