Big Second Half Propels Billikens

Billikens outscore UT Martin 21-11 in third quarter for the win

Saint Louis outscored UT Martin 21-11 in the third quarter of Wednesday night's matchup, leading the Billikens to a 56-50 victory in their season opener.

Sophomore Brooke Flowers recorded 14 of her team-high 18 points in the second half, while also grabbing seven rebounds and four blocks.

Following a 16-5 first quarter lead, the Skyhawks took a 24-18 advantage into the half.

The Billikens scored eight of the first six points to open the second half, including three baskets by Flowers, to tie the game at 26. Behind eight points from Flowers, six from Rachel Kent and five from Myia Clark, Saint Louis outscored UT Martin 21-11 in the quarter, giving them a 39-35 lead.

SLU held off the Skyhawks' attempt to comeback, and the Billikens won their fifth season opener in a row 56-50.

Kent collected 12 points, including two three-pointers, and five rebounds in her Billikens debut.

Myriama Smith Traore chipped in two points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

Clark finished the night with nine points and five assists.

Senior Kendra Wilken came up just shy of a double-double, recording eight points and a career-high 10 rebounds.

The Billikens hit the road for their next four games, first visiting Cincinnati Nov. 10, and Northern Kentucky Nov. 12.
