THE BASICS
• Saint Louis swept Duquesne on Friday night in Atlantic 10 Conference volleyball action in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
• With the win, the Billikens improve to 15-9 overall and 9-2 in league play. Duquesne falls to 10-15 and 4-8 in the league.
FIRST SET
The first set was close throughout, but the Billikens pulled away at the end by winning seven of the last eight points.
SECOND SET
After Duquesne took a 15-13 lead in the second set, the Billikens responded in a big way, going on an 8-1 run to take control of the set. A pair of kills later in the set by Sien Gallop helped seal it in favor of the Billikens.
THIRD SET
Duquesne led 5-2 at the outset, but the Billikens battled back and it was close throughout. The set was tied 22-22, but kills by Lauren Mershon, Juliana Phillips and Maya Taylor delivered the win for SLU.
NOTABLE
• Taylor recorded an impressive .455 hitting percentage on 12 kills in 22 swings.
• Gallop led the way with 14 kills.
• Kennedy Cordia had 38 assists and a team-leading three aces.
• Mershon recorded a team high five blocks.
• Cayce Chaykowsky turned in 24 digs, just two off of her season high.
