Billikens Come Up Short in Overtime Against Kansas

Saint Louis will conclude their non-conference slate with a road game at Indiana State Dec. 30.

Saint Louis sophomore Ciaja Harbison tied a career-high with 22 points in the Billikens' 68-60 overtime loss to Kansas Sunday afternoon. The Jayhawks remained undefeated and moved to 10-0 on the season, while SLU fell to 7-5.

Following a quick 9-3 start by Kansas, it was all Billikens in the first half. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Myia Clark and Rachel Kent tied the game at nine, and then a Kendra Wilken layup put SLU ahead. Harbison hit a jumper at the buzzer to give the Billikens a 16-13 lead after one period of play.

Six players found the scoring column in the second quarter for the Bills, scoring two points each and giving the team a 28-21 advantage into the locker at half.

Kansas came out firing in the third quarter, scoring the first five points on their way to 25 in the period. The Jayhawks held SLU to 15 points and took a 46-43 lead heading into the fourth.

The Billikens and KU traded buckets early on, but a Kent 3-pointer tied the game at 50.

With the game all square at 58, Saint Louis had a chance in the final seconds of regulation, but a Harbison jumper didn't fall, and the Billikens went to overtime for the first time this season.

Harbison scored the first bucket of OT, but that was all SLU could get offensively in extra time. Kansas tallied the remaining 10 points of overtime and won the game 68-60.

Harbison tied career-highs in points (22) and field goals (9), while also contributing six assists, one steal and one rebound.

Kent and Clark dropped 12 points each, with Kent also gathered four rebounds and an assist.

Wilken was one point shy of a double-double, collecting nine points and 10 rebounds, along with three assists.

Saint Louis will conclude their non-conference slate with a road game at Indiana State Dec. 30.
