ST. LOUIS – Senior guard Tramaine Isabell Jr. poured in a SLU Chaifetz Arena record 39 points in an 85-75 Atlantic 10 Conference win over Duquesne on Wednesday at Chaifetz Arena.
The Billikens improve to 19-11 overall and 10-6 in A-10 play. The win sets up a showdown at St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon in the Billikens' regular-season finale. The winner between the Billikens and Bonnies will secure the No. 4 seed and a double-bye in next week's A-10 Men's Basketball Championship at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Duquesne falls to 19-11 and 10-6 in the league.
Isabell's 39 points are tied for the fourth-most in a single game in school history and are the most by a Billiken in a game at Chaifetz Arena.
Duquesne's Eric Williams Jr. scored 40 points to lead the Dukes. His 40 points are a Chaifetz Arena record for any player.
Isabell shot 12-of-25 from the field, 5-of-6 from 3-point range and 10-of-16 from the stripe. He also corralled eight rebounds.
Javon Bess scored 13 points and posted eight rebounds, while Hasahn French went for six points and 12 boards. Javon Bess had seven points, nine rebounds and seven assists.
The Dukes jumped out to a 7-0 lead and led by as many as nine in the first half. An Isabell 3-pointer at the first-half buzzer sent SLU into the locker room trailing by just three.
SLU took command in a wild second half. Isabell drained 23 of his 39 points in the second session, and SLU utilized an 11-0 run to grab a lead it would not relinquish.
