A LOOK AT THE BILLIKENS

• Saint Louis begins its 24th season of women's soccer competition Thursday, Aug. 22, when the Billikens take on Notre Dame for the first time. First whistle at Alumni Stadium in Notre Dame, Indiana, is slated for 7 p.m. EDT / 6 p.m. CDT.

Saint Louis carries a 250-156-53 all-time record into Thursday night's game.

Making its season debut away from home for a second consecutive year, SLU is 14-8-1 in season openers overall and 10-12-1 in road openers.

Notre Dame is the first of two Atlantic Coast Conference opponents on the 2019 Saint Louis schedule. The Billikens play at Louisville Aug. 29.

After winning Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season and tournament titles and posting a school-record 18 wins a year ago, the Billikens were selected to finish atop the league again in the A-10 head coaches' preseason poll. Seven starters and 10 additional players are back from SLU's 2018 team.

Senior defender Alli Klug appears on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List for a second straight season. Klug also is one of four Billikens on the A-10 preseason All-Conference team, joining senior goalkeeper Mary Niehaus, senior midfielder Courtney Reimer and sophomore forward Hannah Friedrich.

SLU is the only A-10 team to appear in the "Also Receiving Votes" section of the United Soccer Coaches preseason national poll. The Billikens totaled eight points.

Saint Louis will host the semifinals and final of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship Friday and Sunday, Nov. 8 and 10. Four first-round games will be played on the home fields of the top four teams in the final regular-season standings, with the winners advancing to SLU's Robert R. Hermann Stadium.

A LOOK AT THE FIGHTING IRISH

Notre Dame was picked to finish ninth among 14 teams in the ACC head coaches' preseason poll.

Seven starters and 14 additional letter winners returned from the 2018 Notre Dame team that was 8-10 overall and 4-6 (tied for ninth) in the ACC.

The Fighting Irish played two exhibition games, falling 1-0 at Ohio State and defeating Marquette 3-0 at home.
