THE BASICS

• Saint Louis finished runner-up in the Billiken Invitational, following a split in their Saturday matches, bringing their record to 6-3 on the season.

• For the third tournament in a row, junior OH Maya Taylor was named to the All-Tournament team. She tallied 45 total kills in the three matches (4.50 per set) and hit for a .287 attack percentage.

• Junior S Kennedy Corida earned a spot on the All-Tournament team for a second time this season. She tallied 96 assists in the tournament, while adding 24 digs, five kills and five service aces.

Marshall Match

FIRST SET

Saint Louis jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but it was back-and-forth from that point on. The game saw 10 tie scores and seven lead changes, including the two teams knotted up at 20. Marshall grabbed five of the last six points and won the set 25-21. Taylor recorded eight kills in the frame.

SECOND SET

The Billikens fought back from an early 11-4 deficit, going on a 6-0 run and bringing the score to 11-10, but the Thundering Herd pulled away again and won the frame 25-20.

THIRD SET

SLU kicked off the set on top 4-1, but Marshall was able to go on a run of their own and take an 11-6 lead over the Billikens. The game saw five tie scores, including at 17, but the Thundering Herd were able to take the set 25-21 and the match 3-0.

NOTABLE

• Taylor had a match-high 16 kills.

Emily Imo collected 14 digs in the match, while also recording four assists and two service aces.

Sien Gallop registered eight kills, nine digs and one service ace.

• Cordia and Sara Daniels each tallied two service aces.

UT Martin Match

FIRST SET

The first set saw 19 tie scores, including a late 25-25 tally. Saint Louis was up against set point twice before finishing off the Skyhawks 27-25. Gallop recorded six kills, while adding seven digs.

SECOND SET

The teams traded points in the first half of the set until SLU pulled away to a 13-9 lead. They then extended it to 16-10 and then to 20-11. The Billikens won the frame 25-18.

THIRD SET

Following tie scores at one, two, three, four, six, seven and eight points, Saint Louis jumped ahead to a 13-8 lead. The Bills never looked back and won the game 25-17 and the match 3-0.

NOTABLE

• The Billikens improved to 5-1 on their home court in the 2019 season.

• Taylor hit for a .500 attack percentage, going for 15 kills.

• Gallop finished with 11 kills and 12 digs.

Lauren Mershon recorded 10 kills (.500).

• Daniels collected five kills (.500) and two blocks.

• Cordia tallied 34 assists and 10 digs in the match.

• Freshman Margaret Mahlke had her second six kill match in her collegiate career.

Saint Louis will host Southeast Missouri in a non-conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m.
