THE BASICS
• The Billikens dropped their conference opener 3-0 to Dayton on Friday night, bringing their record to 6-8 on the season, 0-1 in the Atlantic 10.
• In the second set of the match, junior S Kennedy Cordia became just the ninth Billiken to earn 2,000 career assists. She recorded 18 on the night, bringing her career total to 2,010, ninth in Saint Louis history.
FIRST SET
Saint Louis jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Juliana Phillip's first kill of the match, but Dayton took a 3-2 lead and then extended it to 11-5, 15-8 and 20-13. The Flyers won the first set 25-18.
SECOND SET
The Billikens again took an early 2-0 lead on kills by Phillips and Maya Taylor. An attack error by the Flyers put the Billikens up 4-1, and another kill by Phillips gave the Bills a 7-4 lead. Dayton went on a 13-6 run, took a 17-13 lead and won the frame 25-19.
THIRD SET
With things tied at 10, UD went on a 5-1 run and took a 15-11 lead in the frame. SLU was able to pull within one at 18-17, but the Flyers pulled ahead to a 24-21 lead. The Billikens fought off three set points, but Dayton won the set 26-24 and took the match 3-0.
NOTABLE
• Phillips led the Billikens with 10 kills in the match, hitting for a .391 attack percentage.
• Senior Sien Gallop recorded nine kills and eight digs.
• Cordia collected 18 assists, 10 digs, one service ace and one kill.
• Lauren Mershon and Shea Fuller each had a solo block in the match.
