Billikens Stumble Against VCU

Myia Clark scored 14 points and Kendra Wilken neared a double-double, but Saint Louis fell 65-52 Sunday afternoon to VCU in the Atlantic 10 Conference matchup.

The Billikens moved to 9-7 on the season, 1-2 in league play, while VCU improved to 8-8 (3-0 A-10).

Clark added five rebounds and two assists. Wilken, who hit her third 3-pointer of the season, collected nine points and nine rebounds.

Myriama Smith Traore grabbed a game-high six offensive rebounds, eight total, while also tallying three points and one assist.

Jaidah Stewart recorded seven points for the Billikens, along with one rebound and one block.

Tera Reed and Danielle Hammond led VCU with 24 and 15 points, respectively. Hammond added a game-high 13 rebounds, while Nyra Williams dished out a game-high six assists.

Saint Louis and VCU were tied at six early in the game, but an 11-0 run put the Rams on top 15-6 and led them to an 18-10 first quarter lead.

The Billikens ended the first half on a 14-6 run, including two 3-pointers from Clark, to pull with four at 33-29 going into the locker room.

VCU used a second 11-0 spurt on their way to outscoring the Billikens 23-9 in the third quarter.

SLU held VCU to nine points in the fourth period and scored 14 of their own but came up short, falling 65-52 to the Rams.

The Billikens will return to Chaifetz Arena Wednesday, Jan. 15, for a 7 p.m. tip against St. Bonaventure. The game will be streamed to ESPN+.
