Billikens Fourth Quarter Comeback Falls Short at Dayton

Saint Louis overcame a 15-point fourth quarter deficit against Dayton, but the Flyers escaped with a 48-47 win Sunday afternoon.

Ciaja Harbison led the Billikens (10-8, 2-3 A-10) with a game-high 12 points, along with three assists, two rebounds and one steal.

Rachel Kent scored 10 points for the third time in four contests, adding four rebounds and one steal.

Senior Kendra Wilken grabbed a game-best 11 rebounds, while also collecting eight points and one block.

Erin Whalen recorded a double-double for the Flyers (12-7, 5-0 A-10), scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, while Shakeela Fowler dished out a game-high five assists.

The first quarter featured seven lead changes between the two teams, but thanks to three 3-pointers, the Billikens posted a 14-12 lead after one.

In a defensive battle in the second quarter, SLU outscored the Flyers 8-7, giving them a 22-19 lead at the break. 19 points marked a season low in a first half for Dayton.

The Flyers used two big runs in the third quarter to take command in the game, including a 10-0 run that put them ahead 36-26. They finished the period on a 14-1 run and leading 40-27.

Following a Dayton bucket, Saint Louis went on a 14-0 run in the fourth, pulling them within one of the Flyers. A Kent 3-pointer tied the game at 45, and a pair of Chloe Rice free throws gave SLU a 47-45 lead.

Dayton went on to score the final three points of the game, including a free throw with just seconds left, to escape with the 48-47 victory.

The Billikens are back in action Thursday, Jan. 23, at Fordham. Tip off is at 6 p.m. (CT), and the game will be streamed to ESPN+.
