THE BASICS

• Saint Louis took an early 3-0 lead over UT Martin, but the Skyhawks stormed back to to defeat the Billikens 8-4 Friday afternoon in both teams' season opener.
• Trevor Harris threw 5.0 innings and struck out five, while Cole Smith, George Sutherland and Kyle Fitzgerald each collected two hits in their Billiken debuts.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Corrigan Bartlett drove a ball over the left field fence in the bottom of the first inning to put Saint Louis on the board early.
• The Billikens tacked on another in the second on a Matt Happ single, and they added a third the following frame on a Skyhawks fielders choice.
• A homerun to leadoff the fourth for UT Martin got the Skyhawks on the board, cutting SLU's lead to 3-1.
• UTM added two more in the sixth and one in the seventh to hold an 8-4 lead.
• A pinch hit 2-out single from Sam Polk knotted the game at four for the Billikens in the bottom of the eighth.
• UT Martin collected four runs in the ninth to seel the 8-4 victory.

BILLIKEN NOTABLES

• Sutherland finished 2-for-3 with two runs and a walk.
• Smith ended the afternoon 2-for-5 with one run scored.
• Harris allowed one earned run in 5.0 innings of work, while striking out five and walking none.

• The Billikens take on UT Martin for the second contest of a three-game series Saturday, Feb. 15. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
