THE BASICS
• Saint Louis (1-1) used a four-run third inning and a three-run sixth inning to breeze past UT Martin (1-1) 9-2 Saturday afternoon in Hoover, Ala.
• Kyle Fitzgerald and Corrigan Bartlett combined for five hits, five RBIs and four runs scored, while Mark Finkelnburg tossed 5.2 innings to lead the Billikens.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• George Sutherland started the scoring for Saint Louis with a sacrifice fly in the second inning, bringing home Cam Redding.
• Redding, Fitzgerald and Sutherland each collected RBI singles in the fourth. Adding Matt Happ's RBI groundout to that, the Billikens took a commanding 5-0 lead in the game.
• SLU tacked on another run in the fifth on a Fitzgerald fielders choice, pushing the score to 6-0.
• UT Martin scored its only two runs of the game in the sixth. Finkelnburg recorded the first two outs in in the inning, but he followed that with two walks. Charlie Sheehan took over on the mound for the Billikens with runners on first and second. A 2-RBI single cut SLU's lead to 6-2.
• The Billikens answered back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth, thanks to a 2-RBI double from Bartlett and a second Fitzgerald RBI single.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
• Fitzgerald tallied three hits (3-4), three RBIs and one run scored for the Billikens.
• Bartlett finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs.
• Sutherland contributed two RBIs, while Redding added two runs scored and one RBI.
• Finkelnburg allowed two runs and struck out six in 5.2 innings of work in his Billikens debut.
• Charlie Sheehan tossed 2.1 innings of relief, striking out one and giving up two hits.
• Grant Fremion threw a scoreless ninth inning, punching out two and allowing one hit.
