Clutch Free Throws Propel Billikens Over Spiders

Saint Louis hit 8-of-8 free throws in the final 90 seconds of Wednesday night's 60-57 win over Richmond in Richmond, Va.

Senior Kendra Wilken led the Billikens (17-11, 9-6 A-10) with a team-high 15 points, along with four rebounds.

Ciaja Harbison collected 12 points and four assists, while Myriama Smith Traore snagged a game-best 16 rebounds, with five points and two assists.

Freshman Rachel Kent connected on two 3-pointers on her way to 10 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Jaide Hinds-Clarke led the Spiders (14-15, 7-8 A-10) with 20 points, while teammate Kate Klimkiewicz contributed nine points and five rebounds.

Five Billikens found the scoring column in first quarter, led by Wilken with three points, but Richmond held a 17-11 lead at the end of one.

SLU scored the first 12 points in the second period, including two treys from Rachel Kent. The Billikens held the Spiders scoreless for over seven minutes, putting them ahead 23-17. The Spiders tallied the final four points in the half, giving Saint Louis a 28-24 advantage heading into the locker room.

Harbison connected on two free throws that put the Billikens up 13 at 40-27, but a Richmond 14-6 run brought the score to 46-41 at the end of the third quarter.

Following tie scores at 48 and 50, the Spiders took the lead at 53-52. SLU scored its last eight points of the game at the free throw line (8-for-8), including Wilken, Jaidah Stewart and Harbison putting the Billikens up one with their pair of free throws each time.

Saint Louis returns to Chaifetz Arena Saturday against Dayton for senior night. Tip off is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be streamed to ESPN+.
