THE BASICS
• Cole Smith went 3-for-5 with five RBIs to lead Saint Louis to a 10-5 win over Bowling Green in the Billikens home opener Friday afternoon.
• Saint Louis improved to 8-4, while Bowling Green moved to 1-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Bowling Green got on the board first on Ryan Johnston's solo shot in the top of the second inning.
• Matt Happ answered for the Billikens in their half of the frame, smacking a two-run double down the left field line.
• The Falcons picked up another in the third, tying the game at 2-2.
• Cam Redding's first home run of the season put SLU back on top 3-2 in the bottom of the third.
• Saint Louis scored four in the fourth, including a three-run shot from Smith, the first home run of his career.
• BGSU got two back in the top of the fifth, cutting the Billikens lead to 6-4.
• SLU's biggest inning came in the sixth, where the Billikens pushed across four runs. Smith picked up two more RBIs with a double down the left field line. Redding also picked up another RBI with a base knock.
• The Falcons used a single and triple to record their fifth and final run of the game in the seventh.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
• Smith went 3-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs scored.
• Redding finished the afternoon 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
• Happ drove in two and scored two, going 2-for-3 on the day.
• Corrigan Bartlett extended his hitting streak to 12 games, finishing 1-for4 with one run scored.
• Ryan Surin and Colin Townsend tossed a scoreless inning each, with Surin punching out one.
