THE BASICS

Cole Smith went 3-for-5 with five RBIs to lead Saint Louis to a 10-5 win over Bowling Green in the Billikens home opener Friday afternoon.
• Saint Louis improved to 8-4, while Bowling Green moved to 1-9.


HOW IT HAPPENED

• Bowling Green got on the board first on Ryan Johnston's solo shot in the top of the second inning.
Matt Happ answered for the Billikens in their half of the frame, smacking a two-run double down the left field line.
• The Falcons picked up another in the third, tying the game at 2-2.
Cam Redding's first home run of the season put SLU back on top 3-2 in the bottom of the third.
• Saint Louis scored four in the fourth, including a three-run shot from Smith, the first home run of his career.
• BGSU got two back in the top of the fifth, cutting the Billikens lead to 6-4.
• SLU's biggest inning came in the sixth, where the Billikens pushed across four runs. Smith picked up two more RBIs with a double down the left field line. Redding also picked up another RBI with a base knock.
• The Falcons used a single and triple to record their fifth and final run of the game in the seventh.


BILLIKEN NOTABLES

• Smith went 3-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs scored.
• Redding finished the afternoon 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
• Happ drove in two and scored two, going 2-for-3 on the day.
Corrigan Bartlett extended his hitting streak to 12 games, finishing 1-for4 with one run scored.
Ryan Surin and Colin Townsend tossed a scoreless inning each, with Surin punching out one.

• Saint Louis and Bowling Green square off in game No. 2 of the weekend tomorrow, March 7, at 2 p.m. at Billiken Sports Center.
