ST. LOUIS – Travis & Heather Ford have donated 2,000 full face shields to healthcare workers at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital. The first shipment of masks were delivered to the hospital on Thursday, April 23.
"Heather and I are so thankful to the healthcare workers around the world and those here in St. Louis who are continuing to work on the frontlines to combat COVID-19,"
Travis Ford said. "We were inspired by Dr. Fred Pestello's
OneSLU video message and wanted to shine the light on our healthcare workers, albeit in a small way. They are doing tremendous work and are true heroes."
The disposable face shields offer the healthcare workers a protective solution to limit the amount of exposure during daily routines in the hospital.
"During these unpredictable times that we are in due to the COVID virus, it is humbling to have Coach Ford and his family contribute whatever they can to help," said Michael Lim, a professor of cardiology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine and a SLUCare cardiologist. "The SLU family remains strong and Travis embodies the attributes of Gratitude and Building Community that are so needed in times like this. Medical professionals at Saint Louis University Hospital will be able to provide the compassionate and personal care that our patients so richly deserve thanks to Travis and Heather's thoughtfulness and generosity."
