The Saint Louis University Department of Athletics held the second of three career-planning seminars for Billiken student-athletes Monday, July 27, on Zoom. Senior Academic Coordinator
Heather Freehill and Academic Coordinator
Roy Tippett are coordinating the seminars, which are being conducted in collaboration with SLU's Office of Career Services.
Â
The July 27 seminar was targeted toward student-athletes with majors in the healthcare field and featured presentations by four Billiken alumni:
Â
Dr. Anny (Lucier) Bierman, women's soccer – Manager of Clinical Programs at Athletico
Â
Olivia Jakubicek, women's basketball – occupational therapist, Advocate Aurora Condell Medical Center
Â
Femi John, men's basketball – nurse anesthetist in vascular ICU, Tampa General Hospital
Â
Dr. Kevin Quigley, men's soccer – orthopaedic surgeon, St. Charles Orthopaedic Surgery Associates
Â
"I would first like to thank the panelists for taking time out of their nights to share their experiences as Division I student-athletes," said
Abbie Miller, a sophomore health sciences major from St. Charles, Missouri, and a member of the Billiken women's soccer team.
Â
"I learned how valuable it is to receive a college education while playing sports at such a high level," Miller said. "I also learned that there are many lessons within your athletic team that could potentially help you in the classroom and beyond. The panelists also touched on how important it is to build stable relationships and how those relationships can last a lifetime."
Â
A final Zoom seminar for business majors is scheduled for Monday, August 3.
