The last of three virtual career-planning seminars for Billiken student-athletes was conducted by the Saint Louis University Department of Athletics Monday, August 3. The athletics department partnered with SLU's Office of Career Services to present the seminars, which were coordinated by Senior Academic Coordinator
Heather Freehill and Academic Coordinator
Roy Tippett.
Â
The August 3 seminar was geared toward student-athletes majoring in business and featured presentations by four Billiken alumni:
Â
Brad Byars, swimming and diving – Owner of The Law Office of Bradley S. Byars and Associate General Counsel, Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute;
Â
Bryant Cotton, baseball – Sales Executive, surgical, Karl Storz Endoscopy-America;
Â
Sutton Lasater, volleyball – Vice President, West Model & Talent Management;
Â
John Moriarty, baseball – Founder and President, e3 ConsultantsGROUP.
Â
"It was great to hear from athletes who are just a few years removed from the field/court/pool, because competing in sport is going to last only so long," said
Peter Hurst, a senior double major in analytics & enterprise systems and marketing from Louisville, Kentucky, and a member of the Billiken swimming and diving team. "This workshop taught me to link the competition I know in sports to my future life goals by never being satisfied with my achievements and always staying hungry to improve.Â
Â
"All of this would not have been possible without the coordination efforts of
Roy Tippett and
Heather Freehill which are much appreciated," Hurst said.
