Explosive Fourth Quarter Gives Billikens Fourth Straight Win

THE BASICS
• Saint Louis overcame a 12-point second-half deficit for a second time in three games and went on to rout VCU, 66-50, Friday evening at Chaifetz Arena.
• The Billikens, who captured a fourth consecutive win, improved to 8-3 overall and 6-3 in conference play. The Rams fell to 9-8, 7-3.
• Saint Louis trailed 26-19 at intermission and 31-19 with 7:57 left in the third quarter. From there, the Billikens outscored the Rams 47-19 including 32-10 in the fourth quarter, SLU's largest point total in any quarter this season.
 
FIRST QUARTER
• Saint Louis led by four points on three occasions, the final time a 10-6 advantage at the buzzer.
• Myriama Smith Traore scored four points, while Brooke Flowers and Julia Martinez grabbed five and four rebounds, respectively.
 
SECOND QUARTER
• Rachel Kent's 3-pointer on the Billikens' first possession expanded the SLU lead to 13-6.
• VCU then caught fire, outscoring Saint Louis 20-6 the rest of the way to take a 26-19 edge to the locker room.
 
THIRD QUARTER
• Trailing by a dozen, SLU cut the margin in half by the end of the quarter.
• Kent led the way with eight of the Billikens' 15 points in the period, and the VCU lead was 40-34 heading into the final stanza.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
• Saint Louis began the quarter with a 14-0 run. Five different players scored, led by Ciaja Harbison's five points, and the Billikens led 48-40 with 6:37 remaining.
• VCU pulled to within four by scoring on its next two possessions, but the Rams drew no closer.
• Julia Martinez netted five points in a 9-0 spurt that gave the Billikens a 57-44 cushion at the 1:49 mark.
• Saint Louis sealed the win by going 9-of-10 from the foul line down the stretch.
 
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
• Saint Louis held VCU to 29 percent (20-of-69) overall shooting and 24 percent (4-of-17) from 3-point range.
• In the second half, the Billikens shot 59 percent (16-of-27) overall and 67 percent (4-of-6) from the arc, out-rebounded VCU 22-15 and committed only four turnovers.
• Ciaja Harbison scored a team-high 17 points (13 in the second half) and added four assists.
• Rachel Kent tossed in 16 points (13 in the second half) and collected seven rebounds.
• Brooke Flowers registered her third double-double of the season, posting 13 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Flowers added three blocks.
• Myriama Smith Traore had 10 points, six rebounds, four steals (tied career high) and three blocks.
• Julia Martinez contributed eight points (all in the second half), seven rebounds, a career-high seven assists and three steals (tied career high).
