Billikens Split Saturday Double-Header with Dayton

RESULTS

THE BASICS
• Saint Louis split Saturday's double-header with Dayton at Chaifetz Pavilion, winning the first match in five sets, but dropping the second in three.
• The first contest counted towards each team's Atlantic 10 Conference record, but the second was considered non-conference.
• SLU moved to 2-4 on the season, 1-1 in the A-10, while Dayton went to 1-1, 0-1.

Match 1
FIRST SET
• Two Emily Henken service aces helped the Billikens grab the first three points in the frame.
• The Flyers climbed back to tie things at seven, but it was all Saint Louis from there.
• A 9-1 run put SLU up 17-9, and the Billikens went on to take the frame 25-16.

SECOND SET
• The Billikens trailed by as many as four at 16-12.
• SLU fought back with a 5-0 run, and Kennedy Cordia's service ace gave them the lead at 20-19.
• Dayton regained the advantage at 22-21, but the Billikens scored four of the final five points to take the set.

THIRD SET
• After trailing 14-9, SLU crawled its way back to take the lead at 22-21.
• The Billikens held match point at 24-22, but Dayton went on a 4-0 run and took the game.

FOURTH SET
• It was back-and-forth with neither team ever leading by more than two points.
• SLU held an 18-17 edge, but Dayton regained the lead and held on to force a game five.

FIFTH SET
• Two more Cordia aces contributed to a 4-0 Billiken run that gave SLU a 7-3 lead.
• Dayton made it interesting, tying the set at 10.
• Back-to-back kills from Sara Daniels and Maya Taylor put the Billikens up 12-10, and they would go on to take the frame 15-11.

NOTABLE
• Henken doubled her career high in kills, tying the team lead with 14 in the match. She added eight digs and three service aces.
• Taylor poured in 14 kills, along with seven digs. She tied a career best with four service aces.
• Cordia collected a third-straight double-double, tallying 35 assists and 12 digs, in addition to three service aces.
Emily Imo posted a match-high 24 digs.

Match 2
FIRST SET
• The first half of the set set saw seven ties and five lead changes through a 10-10 score.
• Dayton was able to pull ahead 14-10, using a 5-0 run.
• The Flyers took the frame 25-17.

SECOND SET
• Back-to-back service aces from Rodgers gave the Billikens a 6-5 edge.
• The Flyers responded, taking back the lead at 9-8.
• A 5-0 run put UD up 17-10, and the Flyers went on to take the game 25-16.

THIRD SET
• After taking a 4-3 lead, Dayton sustained the edge over the Billikens, winning the frame 25-16.

NOTABLE
• Taylor connected on 14 kills with a .385 attack percentage.
• Imo tallied another match-high of 11 digs.
• Cordia collected 23 assists, while Eva Athanasiadou and Imo each had two.

UP NEXT
Saint Louis will host Davidson for three next weekend, beginning with a 12 p.m. first serve on Saturday, Feb. 20.
