THE BASICS
• Freshman Jillian Mattingly tallied 16 kills and Kennedy Cordia posted a double-double, but Saint Louis fell to VCU in four sets in an Atlantic 10 Conference match Friday afternoon in Richmond, Va.
• After going down 2-0 in the contest, SLU fought back to take the third frame in convincing fashion, but the Rams withstood the Billikens in game four.
• Saint Louis moved to 0-3 overall on the season, 0-1 in league play. VCU improved to 5-0, 1-0.
FIRST SET
• After going back-and-forth early, Saint Louis used a 4-0 run to take a 14-11 advantage on the Rams.
• The Billikens sustained the three-point lead through 18-15, but VCU went on a 5-0 run and took a 20-18 lead.
• The Rams scored five of the final seven points and took the first set 25-22.
• Maya Taylor led the Billikens with four kills in the frame, while also adding six digs.
SECOND SET
• SLU jumped out to an early 6-3 edge, but a quick spurt of VCU points put the Rams on top at 8-7.
• VCU extended its lead to five on multiple occasions and eventually came away with game two 25-21.
THIRD SET
• After trailing the Rams 11-9, the Billikens scored seven straight points to hold a 16-11 edge.
• SLU was able to push its lead to seven at 21-14.
• The Billikens won game three 25-18 on Mattingly's seventh kill of the set. She went 7-for-9 in the frame with no errors.
FOURTH SET
• Saint Louis snagged the first point of the set, but VCU recorded the following six.
• The Billikens gradually crawled their way back to within two at 18-16, but VCU scored all but one of the last eight points to win the game 25-17 and the match 3-0.
NOTABLE
• Mattingly posted a match-high 16 kills with a .519 attack percentage. She's now up to 31 kills in the first three matches of her rookie season.
• Cordia collected 44 assists and 14 digs for her first double-double of the year.
• Sara Daniels recorded 10 kills, along with four blocks, three service aces and three digs.
• Taylor tallied a match-best 19 digs, along with seven kills and one service ace.
• Lily Welti hit for six kills, including the first of her career, and a .385 attack percentage.
• Carlie Rodgers contributed 17 digs, while Emily Imo posted 14.

• Saint Louis will host Butler on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 4 p.m. for the team's home opener.
