Billikens Sweep Butler in Home Opener

THE BASICS
• Freshman Jillian Mattingly recorded 10 kills and Kennedy Cordia posted another double-double, as Saint Louis swept Butler Tuesday evening at Chaifetz Pavilion.
• Saint Louis improved to 1-3 on the season, while Bultler fell to 2-3.

FIRST SET
• Saint Louis tallied six service aces in the first frame, including two straight from Sara Daniels to give the Billikens a 7-4 lead.
• The Billikens were able to pull away from Butler throughout the period, taking a seven-point lead at 18-11 and again at 21-14.
• Freshman Emily Henken followed Daniels' lead and collected her own back-to-back aces to give SLU a 22-14 advantage.
• The Billikens went on to take set one 25-17.

SECOND SET
• After taking an 8-7 advantage, the Billikens pulled ahead to 11-8.
• Following a tie score at 13, SLU went on an 8-3 run to lead 21-16.
• Butler made it interesting in the end, pulling within one at 24-23, but a service error by the Bulldogs gave Saint Louis the 25-23 set win.

THIRD SET
• Butler recorded the first point of the frame and held a lead as big as four on multiple occasions, but the Billikens fought back to tie the game at 16.
• Cordia took her turn with back-to-back aces and gave SLU an 18-16 edge.
• After a tie score at 23, the Billikens closed out the match with two Mattingly kills to complete the sweep.

NOTABLE

• Mattingly posted her third-straight match with double-digit kills, leading the Billikens with 10. She hit 10-of-15 for a match-best .667 attack percentage.
• Cordia notched her second-consecutive double-double, collecting 27 assists and 12 digs, while also adding three aces.
• Lily Welti connected on a career-high eight kills and eight digs.
• Henken recorded seven kills, the most in her rookie season. She added two aces and two digs.

• Saint Louis hosts Dayton for two on Saturday, Feb. 13, at noon and 6 p.m.
