THE BASICS
• Maria Connell was 3-for-4 with three RBI, but Creighton made a late comeback and defeated Saint Louis 6-4 Friday night on day one of Southern Illinois' Saluki Invitational.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• After Creighton went in front 1-0 in the top of the first, Saint Louis answered with two runs. Connell's two-out single scored Alyssa Chavez (double) and Aubrey Hacke (single).
• The Billikens expanded their lead to 3-1 in the third on another two-out single by Connell.
• Creighton crept closer with a run in the fourth and took a 5-3 lead with three tallies in the sixth.
• In the SLU sixth, Sadie Wise's two-out double plated Chloe Wendling (single).
• The Bluejays added an insurance run in the seventh and worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the Billikens' half of the inning.
 
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
• Connell added a double to her two run-scoring singles.
• Wendling was 2-for-4.
• Starting pitcher Hacke struck out five.

The Billikens continue play in the Saluki Invitational Saturday, taking on Northern Kentucky at 2:30 p.m. and Illinois-Chicago at 4:45 p.m.
