Taylor Hits Milestone Against Tulane

MATCH DETAILS
• Saint Louis came out on top in the first set, but Tulane took the next three to defeat the Billikens 3-1 Friday afternoon in the Mary Jo Wynn Invitational at Hammons Student Center in Springfield, Mo.
• Saint Louis fell to 4-4 on the season, while Tulane moved to 6-2.
• With her fifth kill in the match, senior Maya Taylor became the fifth Billiken to reach the 1,500-kill milestone in her career. With 12 total on the day, Taylor sits fifth all-time at SLU with 1,507 kills. She trails Laura Risley by 136 for the fourth spot.
• Following a 4-4 tie score early in the first set, Taylor led the Billikens to a 9-0 run with five service aces and one kill, putting Saint Louis ahead 13-4. Tulane fought back to pull within four at 18-14, but the Billikens were able to close out the frame with a 25-17 victory.
• Despite hitting for a .312 percentage in the second set, SLU fell 25-23 to Tulane in the frame. A Jillian Mattingly kill gave the Billikens a late 23-20 advantage, but the Green Wave collected the final five points in the frame to win the set.
• Tulane jumped out to an early 7-2 lead over the Billikens in set three, but SLU fought its way back to tie the game at 11-11. Following a 14-14 tie score, the Green Wave took control of the frame, outscoring the Billikens 14-4 the rest of the way.
• SLU was off to a quick start in set four, scoring the first five points in the frame. The Green Wave answered by tying things at 9-9. Following an 11-11 tie score, Tulane went on a 5-1 run to take control of the game.

BILLIKEN NOTABLES
• In addition to her 12 kills, Taylor collected a career-high six service aces in the match. Five of them came in the first set.
• Mattingly hit for a .667 percentage, tallying eight kills, along with two service aces, three blocks and three digs.
• Carlie Rodgers tied the match best with 12 digs.

Saint Louis will take on Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 3 p.m., in the Billikens' second match of the Mary Jo Wynn Invitational in Springfield, Mo.
