Billikens Come Up Short Against Missouri State

MATCH DETAILS
• Saint Louis fell in straight sets to Missouri State Sunday afternoon in the Mary Jo Wynn Invitational at Hammons Student Center in Springfield, Mo.
• SLU moved to 5-5 on the season, while Missouri State went to 7-2.
• Maya Taylor had six kills on a .385 hitting percentage and Carlie Rodgers tallied nine digs in the first set, but Missouri State came out on top in the frame 25-20. A 4-0 spurt put SLU ahead at 12-11, but the Bears answered with a 4-0 run of their own, giving them a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
• The Bears went ahead early in game two, jumping out to a 6-2 lead. Delaney Rice recorded two kills and two block assists on four of the next five points, bringing SLU to within one at 7-6. The Billikens came within one on two other occasions, but Missouri State pulled away and won the set 25-18.
• Rodgers' service ace gave the Billikens a 17-11 edge in set three, but Missouri State outscored SLU 14-4 the rest of the way to take the set 25-21 and the match 3-0.
• Sophomore Jillian Mattingly was named to the All-Tournament team, after recording 27 kills (2.70 per set), on a .415 hitting percentage, in addition to eight blocks, seven digs and four service aces.

BILLIKEN NOTABLES
• Sara Daniels hit for a .600 percentage, with six kills, along with three blocks.
• Rice hit .455, with five kills and three blocks.
• Rodgers collected a match-best 19 digs.
• Taylor recorded 12 kills and three digs.

UP NEXT
Saint Louis will head to Peoria, Ill., next weekend for the Bradley Invitational, beginning with matches against Northern Colorado and North Dakota on Friday, Sept. 17.
