THE BASICS
•Cami Newbanks hit three home runs – the first homers of her collegiate career – and Sadie Wise went deep twice in Saint Louis' Atlantic 10 Conference doubleheader split with Massachusetts Saturday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center.
•SLU won the first game 9-3, and UMass took the nightcap 16-10.
•The Billikens are 10-14 overall and 2-2 in the A-10, while UMass is 8-16, 3-1.
 
GAME 1 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•Saint Louis led 2-0 following solo home runs by Wise and Newbanks in the first and second innings, respectively.
•UMass scored its first run in the third, then took a 3-2 lead with two tallies in the fifth.
•The Billikens answered with six 2-out runs in their half of the fifth, matching their highest run total in an inning this season. Allie Herron's three-run home run put SLU in front, Newbanks followed with her second round-tripper of the game, and Natalie Sullivan finished the scoring with a two-run single.
•Jane Kaniecki's RBI infield single in the sixth accounted for the Bills' final run.
 
GAME 1 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Sullivan added a double and Wise chipped in a single for two-hit games.
•Kaniecki collected two singles.
•Gabbie Kowalik recorded a single and stole three bases.
•Chloe Wendling picked up the victory in the circle, winning for a sixth consecutive time to improve to 8-5.
 
GAME 2 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•UMass led 6-0 after plating three runs in the first, one in the second and two in the fourth.
•The Billikens got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Kowalik scored on a wild pitch and Kaniecki produced an RBI single.
•The Minutewomen increased their lead to 7-2 with a run in the fifth.
•Kowalik singled in a run and Wise lifted a two-run homer in the SLU fifth, and it was 7-5 UMass.
•A wild sixth inning saw UMass score four times and Saint Louis respond with five runs. Newbanks led off the Billiken half of the inning with her third home run of the day, Jocelyn Abbott tripled in a run, and Sullivan registered a sacrifice fly. Kowalik narrowed the UMass lead to 11-10 with a two-run homer.
•However, the Minutewomen pushed across five runs in the seventh.
 
GAME 2 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Eight players combined for the Billikens' season-high 14 hits.
•Kowalik added a single for a three-hit outing, and Kaniecki had three singles.
•Kristi Stevenson had a double and a single, and Wise added a single for a two-hit game.
•Herron notched a double, and Kendall Johnson had a single.
 
UP NEXT
The Billikens and Minutewomen conclude their three-game series Sunday. Game time has moved up to 11:30 a.m.
