THE BASICS
•Chloe Wendling tossed a two-hit shutout, Gabbie Kowalik drove in three runs with a home run and a triple, and Saint Louis defeated Northern Kentucky 5-0 Tuesday afternoon in the Billikens' 2022 home opener.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
•Kelsey Etling gave SLU a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the second inning.
•Kowalik made it 3-0 in the third with a towering two-run homer just inside the left-field foul pole. It was her second round-tripper of the season.
•In the fifth, Kowalik's RBI triple and Kayla Swiderski's RBI single swelled the Saint Louis lead to 5-0.
 
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Wendling, who recorded her third victory of the season, retired the first 12 batters she faced. She struck out two and did not issue a walk.
•Natalie Sullivan and Kristi Stevenson added a single apiece to the Billikens' attack.
 
UP NEXT
The Billikens begin Atlantic 10 Conference play at Fordham March 12-13. Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single game start at 11 a.m. Central.
