ST. LOUIS – Billiken soccer standout defender Brionna Halverson is Saint Louis University's nominee for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Candidates are nominated based on academic success, athletic accomplishments and active leadership in the community. Halverson is one of 14 student-athletes nominated by Atlantic 10 Conference institutions. The A-10's senior woman administrators will select two of the nominees to represent the conference as 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year finalists.

Halverson earned a bachelor's degree in public health and is pursuing a master's degree in organizational leadership at SLU while completing her eligibility this fall. She has earned a place on the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll every year.

A starter in 78 of the 79 games in which she has played during her collegiate career, Halverson has helped Saint Louis continue its defensive excellence while also notching four goals and 10 assists. She is a two-time United Soccer Coaches All-East Region honoree, including a first-team nod in the 2020 season, and her three All-Conference selections include first-team accolades the past two seasons. Halverson also made the 2020 and 2021 A-10 Championship All-Tournament teams, was an A-10 All-Rookie choice as a freshman, and was voted to the Billikens' 25th Anniversary Team a year ago.

Halverson has been a leader in the community service efforts of Billiken women's soccer. She has committed well over 100 volunteer hours to several organizations including the Special Needs Soccer Association, Food Outreach, the St. Louis Scott Gallagher inner-city soccer program and the Jesuit Hall nursing home.

One of the most prestigious NCAA awards, the Woman of the Year Award was established in 1991 to celebrate the achievements of women in intercollegiate athletics. Now in its 32nd year, it honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.

After conferences determine their representatives, the Woman of the Year selection committee, comprising representatives from the NCAA membership, will choose the top 10 honorees from each of the NCAA's three divisions. Later, the committee selects the top three individuals from each division, and the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics chooses the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year from those nine student-athletes. The winner will be announced in the fall.
