STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Sierra Larson scored her second goal of the season in the first quarter, but LIU responded with two unanswered goals to defeat Saint Louis 2-1 Sunday afternoon in a nonconference field hockey match played at Wagner College.
The Billikens dip to 1-9 on the season, while the Sharks improve to 2-6.
Larson's goal came on a rebound attempt off of a Josefina Perez shot. It was the second goal of the year for Larson. Perez improves her team-leading points total to 10 (3G, 4A) with the assist.
LIU tied the score with a goal in the second quarter, then struck for the game-winner in an eventful fourth quarter. Early in the final period, the Billikens had a chance to go on top when they were awarded a penalty stroke, but Demi Sahuleka's shot was saved by LIU. Five minutes later, the Shark's Juana Laskowski scored the go-ahead goal, and LIU hung on for the win.
The Bills out-shot LIU 10-9 and held a 5-2 advantage in penalty corners.
SLU is back in action on Friday when it hosts VCU in Atlantic 10 Conference action at SportPort International. Game time is 4 p.m.
