MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – Saint Louis erupted for five second-half goals and set a school record for most goals scored in a conference game in a 5-1 Atlantic 10 Conference field hockey victory over Lock Haven Friday afternoon at SportPort International.
The Billikens won their first A-10 matchup of the season and improved to 3-11 and 1-5 in A-10 play. Lock Haven fell to 4-10 and 3-5 in the league.
It was the second straight game that SLU posted a season-high scoring mark after it registered four goals the last time out against Maryville.
Five different Billikens scored – Brooke Mason, Josefina Perez, Shaya Dry, Abby Vidas and Demi Sahuleka. Vidas, Mason and Dry also added assists for three-point games.
The Billikens came from behind as Lock Haven scored in the first quarter on a penalty stroke, and the Bald Eagles took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Saint Louis came out firing on all cylinders in the second half. Mason scored less than a minute into the second session to tie the score, and Perez followed with the eventual game-winner several minutes later to make it 2-1.
The Bills would score three times in the fourth quarter – one from Dry, then quick back-to-back strikes from Vidas and Sahuleka for the 5-1 margin.
Goalie Kendyl Underwood made four saves for the win in goal.
Prior to the game, SLU recognized six players on Senior Day – Grace Golembiewski, Brooke Mason, Lauren Pendergast, Demi Sahuleka, Cameron Tucker and Kendyl Underwood.
Saint Louis returns to action next weekend for a road swing in North Carolina, first facing Davidson on Friday in A-10 play then concluding the season Sunday at App State.
