Billikens Fall in Myrtle Beach Invitational Finale

CONWAY, S.C. – Terrence Hargrove Jr. scored 21 points, including 19 in the second half, but Saint Louis fell 88-69 to Wichita State in the third-place game of the Myrtle Beach Invitational at the HTC Center on Sunday night.

The Billikens finished the Myrtle Beach Invitational with a 1-2 record and are now 4-2 overall. Wichita State improved to 5-1.

Hargrove was 8-of-16 from the field and 5-of-5 from the line. He also pulled down seven rebounds. Gibson Jimerson and Tim Dalger scored 11 points apiece.

The game got off to a frantic pace, with the teams trading leads through the first four minutes. It was tied 14-14 before the Shockers took command with a 9-0 run. Larry Hughes II broke the rally with a 3-pointer, but another 8-0 spurt by the Shockers gave them a 29-17 advantage with 7:50 to go.

Two Bruce Zhang free throws and a Jimerson 3-pointer pulled SLU to within six of the lead in the half, but Wichita State went on an 8-0 run to end the first half and take a 44-30 advantage into the break.

In the second half, Wichita State built a 15-point lead before SLU slowly started chipping away. Hargrove's strong second-half play brought SLU to within seven of the lead on several occasions midway through the second half.

But a 12-0 Wichita State run late in the game sealed the double-digit win for the Shockers.

The Billikens are back in action Saturday night when they host Dartmouth College (1-2) at Chaifetz Arena. Game time on Bally Sports Midwest is 7 p.m.
