Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Billikens Edge La. Tech 75-74 on Hargrove's Buzzer-Beating 3-Pointer

ST. LOUISTerrence Hargrove Jr. scored Saint Louis' last 11 points in the final 28 seconds, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer, and the Billikens overcame a late deficit to defeat Louisiana Tech 75-74 Saturday night at Chaifetz Arena.

SLU improved to 7-5 with its second straight victory. Louisiana Tech of Conference USA – which did not commit a turnover – slipped to 9-3.

Gibson Jimerson scored a game-high 23 points, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Jimerson took sole possession of second place on SLU's career 3-point field goals made list with 263 -- breaking a tie with Kevin Lisch -- and passed Dwayne Evans for ninth place on the Billikens' career points list with 1,505.

Bradley Ezewiro (6-of-9 FG) tallied 17 points, just two shy of his career high, and five rebounds in his Billiken debut.

Hargrove finished with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting (2-of-3 from distance), while Cian Medley contributed career highs of 10 points and seven assists (game high). Bruce Zhang grabbed a career-high seven rebounds, and Tim Dalger collected six boards.

The Billikens shot 54 percent (27-of-50) from the floor overall and 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from 3-point range. SLU is 23-of-47 (48.9 percent) in 3-point shooting over its last two games.

SLU, which owned a 13-point lead late in the first half and early in the second, went on top 54-44 when Larry Hughes II connected from 3-point range at the 11:18 mark of the second half.

From there, Louisiana Tech went on a 26-10 run to earn its largest lead, 70-64, with 36 seconds left.

Hargrove began his remarkable flurry with a spectacular driving dunk that turned into a three-point play. After Tech converted one of two from the foul line, he drove for a layup that cut the Bulldogs' lead to 71-69 with 17 seconds to play.

Tech again went 1-for-2 from the stripe after a quick SLU foul, and Hargrove tied it at 72 with a 3-pointer. A Billiken foul in the back court gave the Bulldogs a chance to regain the lead, which they did with two Sean Newman Jr. free throws with five seconds remaining.

Hargrove then took the inbounds pass, dribbled up the floor and drained a near NBA-range triple for the victory.

Jimerson, Ezewiro and Medley combined for all the points in a 17-7 Saint Louis spurt that put the Billikens in front 20-11 midway through the first half. SLU's first double-digit advantage was 25-15 at the 7:05 mark, and a Kellen Thames 3-pointer made it 30-17 with 5:09 left.

An 8-2 run drew Tech to within seven, 32-25, before SLU gained a 37-27 edge at intermission.

The Billikens play at North Carolina State Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 6 p.m. Central. The game will be carried on ACC Network Extra.
