THE BASICS
On the earliest date for a home opener in program history, Saint Louis dropped a doubleheader to Southeast Missouri State, 10-9 in 10 innings and 7-4 Sunday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center.
Â
GAME 1 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•The Billikens took advantage of two SEMO errors to plate four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Jane Kaniecki's RBI single opened the scoring,
Chloe Rhine's bases-loaded walk made it 2-0, and
Kendall Johnson's two-run single gave SLU a 4-0 lead.
•SEMO scored twice in the third and once each in the sixth and seventh to send the game to extra innings.
•The Redhawks plated six runs in the 10th.
•Saint Louis made it interesting in its half of the 10th. Johnson singled in the first run, and
Jocelyn Abbott delivered a two-run single to make it 10-7. A
Gabbie Kowalik RBI single and
Kelsey Etling's sacrifice fly made it a one-run game with the potential tying and winning runs on base, but the Bills' rally stalled there.

GAME 1 BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Etling added a double to her sacrifice fly, and Rhine tacked on a single.
Â
GAME 2 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•SLU answered SEMO's first-inning run with two of its own in the bottom half. With the bases loaded, Rhine hit a fly ball to short right field that fell in, but it resulted in a fielder's choice as the Billiken runner at first base was forced at second after having to wait to see if the ball would be caught. However, Rhine collected two RBI as the runners at second and third scored.
•SEMO tallied five runs in the second and one in the third for a 7-2 advantage.
•The Billikens scored a third-inning run on an error.
•In the fifth, Rhine notched her third RBI of the game with a single.
Â
GAME 2 BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Kowalik went 4-for-4 with a double.
•
Natalie Sullivan doubled and
Allie Marietta singled.
•
Kaili Hanner pitched a strong five innings of relief, allowing just one run and three hits.
