ST. LOUIS — Peyton Kennedy netted a career-best 26 points and the Billikens held La Salle to just four points in the final six minutes en route to Saint Louis' 74-63 victory over the Explorers in an Atlantic 10 Conference contest Sunday afternoon at Chaifetz Arena.
Winners of six in its last seven games, SLU improved to 12-17 on the season and 8-6 in league play, while La Salle moved to 16-12, 7-6. The Billikens honored three graduating student-athletes and one student manager following the win.
Kennedy finished with a game-high 26 points and came one rebound shy of a double-double, posting nine boards and two steals. She went 4-5 from behind the arc and 10-11 from the charity stripe.
Senior Brooke Flowers picked up her 38th career double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, while also collecting two blocks. Flowers moved into 16th all-time on SLU's scoring chart with 1,205 points.
Julia Martinez snagged four steals, moving into third place all-time at SLU with 175. The guard finished with 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals.
La Salle led 19-12 at the end of the first quarter after holding the Billikens to just three points in the final five minutes of the frame.
A 7-0 spurt that was capped off by a Kennedy three-point play with 4:33 remaining in the first half tied the game at 26-26. Following two more tie scores, the Explorers held a 33-31 advantage at the break.
After trailing by six with 3:14 left in the third quarter, the Billikens held La Salle scoreless the remainder of the frame and went on a 12-0 run to post a 52-46 edge.
La Salle netted 13 of the fourth quarter's first 15 points to regain a 59-54 lead, but the Billikens took over from there. SLU scored 20 of the game's final 24 points in the closing 5:38 to earn the victory.
The Billikens host Massachusetts Wednesday at Chaifetz Arena for the final home game of the regular season.
