Strong Bullpen Leads Billikens Past Minnesota

Saint Louis relief pitching allowed just four hits across the final seven innings in a 6-3 Billiken win over Minnesota Friday afternoon in Fort Myers, Fla.

SLU picked up its first win of the season, improving to 1-3, while the Gophers dipped to 0-5.

After taking a 2-0 lead in the opening frame, Minnesota's bats were held quiet until they pushed across an additional run in the ninth inning.

Hayden Moore and Knox Preston collected RBI singles in the fourth inning to knot things up, and Patrick Clohisy's second home run of the season, a three-run shot to right field, gave the Billikens a 5-2 edge in the seventh.

Preston drove in an insurance run with an RBI single in the eighth to increase SLU's advantage to 6-2.

Junior Henry Litman led the way out of the bullpen with 4.1 scoreless innings, scattering just two hits and one walk, while punching out four.

Luke Gasser needed just five pitches to induce a double-play and help SLU escape a first and third jam in the bottom of the seventh.

Ethan Bell closed the door, allowing one run on two hits and striking out two in the final 2.0 innings.

Preston posted a three-hit day, going 3-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Clohisy's lone hit (1-5) was his three-run homer in the seventh inning.

The Billikens return to action Saturday for a 10 a.m. CT first pitch in game No. 2 against the Gophers in Fort Myers, Fla.
