THE BASICS
Saint Louis battled 14th-ranked Kentucky and outhit the Wildcats 9-7, but UK used two late rallies to come away with a 6-3 victory Tuesday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center.
 
The game featured twin sisters Gabbie (SLU center fielder) and Kayla (UK catcher) Kowalik facing each other. Both players had two hits.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
•Kentucky took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Erin Coffel's two-run home run.
•SLU grabbed the lead with a three-run fifth. Natalie Sullivan led off with a double and scored on Gabbie Kowalik's single, and Abby Mallo delivered a two-out, two-run homer, her second long ball of the season.
•Grace Lorsung put Kentucky back on top with a two-run shot in the sixth, and Coffel hit her second two-run blast of the day in the seventh.
 
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Kowalik reached base in all four of her plate appearances (two singles, two hit-by-pitch).
•Mallo added a single for a two-hit day.
•Ashley Marietta collected two singles.
•Chloe Rhine and Jane Kaniecki had a single apiece.
•Chloe Wendling went the distance and struck out seven, including the side in the second inning.
 
UP NEXT
The Billikens begin Atlantic 10 Conference play this weekend at home vs. St. Bonaventure. Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single game begin at noon.
