ST. LOUIS – SIUE scored 11 runs over the final four innings to post a 14-12, come-from-behind victory over Saint Louis Tuesday in nonconference baseball action at the Billiken Sports Center.
Â
SLU falls to 12-10 with the loss, while SIUE improves to 15-8.
Â
The Cougars overcame a 9-3 deficit after five innings and scored four times in the top of the ninth to post the win.
Â
SLU designated hitter
Cam Redding made his first appearance of the season after missing the first 21 games due to a wrist injury suffered in the preseason. He wasted little time making his impact known as he sent the first pitch he saw over the left field wall to put the Billikens on the board in the second.
Â
Cole Smith and
Tyler Fogarty each had two-run homers as SLU built an early lead. However, SIUE scored four in the sixth, one in the seventh, two in the eighth and four in the ninth to take the command. All four Cougars runs in the ninth came with two outs.
Â
SLU put runners on in its half of the ninth, but the potential tying run was stranded at second.
Â
Fogarty drove in a team-high three runs, while Smith,
Patrick Clohisy and
Knox Preston drove in two runs apiece. Smith,
Cameron Swanger and Preston all had two hits.
Â
For SIUE, its top two hitters in the lineup (Drew Mize and Brennan Orf) combined for five hits, six runs scored and nine RBIs.
Â
Saint Louis opens A-10 play this weekend with a three-game series against UMass. The games are currently scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday.
