THE BASICS
Abby Mallo hit her first collegiate home run and drove in both runs in Saint Louis' 2-1 victory over Youngstown State Saturday on day two of Lipscomb's Purple & Gold Challenge.
 
In SLU's second game of the day, Providence posted a 4-2 win over the Billikens.
 
GAME 1 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•Youngstown State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
•Saint Louis pulled even in the sixth on Mallo's two-out solo home run.
•Youngstown State had runners at first and third with nobody out in the eighth, but SLU hurler Chloe Wendling worked out of the jam with no damage.
•The Billikens won it in their half of the eighth on Mallo's two-out RBI single.
 
GAME 1 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Wendling went the distance and allowed no earned runs and three hits while striking out five.
•Kendall Johnson collected two singles.
•Gabbie Kowalik and Cami Newbanks had a single apiece.
 
GAME 2 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•The Billikens scored their only runs in the top of the first, both with two outs. Kowalik hit her fourth home run in two days, a solo blast, and Mallo delivered an RBI infield single.
•Providence answered with three tallies in the bottom of the first and added an insurance run in the fifth.
 
GAME 2 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Kowalik added a single for a two-hit game.
•Jane Kaniecki and Ashley Marietta smacked a double apiece.
•Chloe Rhine and Kelsey Etling each had a single.
•Taylor Hochman struck out five.

The Billikens conclude play in the Purple & Gold Challenge Sunday with two games, facing Youngstown State at 12:30 p.m. and Lipscomb at 3 p.m.
