THE BASICS
Saint Louis concluded the Lipscomb Purple & Gold Challenge with a pair of losses on Sunday.
 
The Billikens (4-12) took Youngstown State to extra innings before falling 9-8 in nine innings in the first game of the day. SLU fell 4-0 to host Lipscomb in the night cap.
 
GAME 1 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•Saint Louis jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning on a Jocelyn Abbott three-run homer.
•The Billikens scored two more in the fourth on a two-run single by Chloe Rhine, then tacked on another in the top of the fifth on an Ashley Marietta RBI double.
•Youngstown State, however, put up five runs in the fifth inning and led 7-6 after five.
•Saint Louis tied the score in the seventh inning with an unearned run to send the game into extras. The Bills went on top in the eighth on a Rhine single.
•But the Penguins would score runs in the bottom half of the eighth and ninth innings for the extra-inning victory.
 
GAME 1 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Rhine and Marietta led the way for the Billikens with two hits apiece.
•Rhine had three RBIs to go along with her two hits.
•Natalie Sullivan went 2-of-4 with a pair of runs scored.
•Taylor Hochman was effective in the circle despite being tagged with the loss. She went 4.1 innings allowing just one hit and no earned runs.
 
GAME 2 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•The Billikens were unable to get much going against Lipscomb starter XX Yakubowski, who scattered three hits and struck out six Billikens in seven innings of work for the complete-game shutout.
 
GAME 2 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Jane Kaniecki had two hits including a double, for the Bills.
•Sullivan had a single.
•Chloe Wendling allowed three earned runs in six innings in the loss.
 
UP NEXT
The Billikens travel to Edwardsville, Illinois, to take on the SIUE Cougars (7-11) Wednesday. First pitch at Cougar Field is set for 3 p.m.
