Billikens Rally for Walk-Off Winner

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis scored six unanswered runs in the final three innings to complete a come-from-behind, walk-off win over Massachusetts Saturday in the second game of a three-game set at the Billikens Sports Center.

The Billikens improve to 14-10 and 2-0 in A-10 play and will go for the series sweep tomorrow. UMass dips to 4-14 overall and 0-2 in the league.

Ethan Sitzman delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth. Patrick Clohisy went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while Easton Richter was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

UMass led 6-5 heading into the bottom of the ninth, but the Billikens walked it off before UMass managed to post an out. The first three Billikens in the inning reached on a hit by pitch, walk, and an error to load the bases for Clohisy. He singled to right to plate Tyler Fogarty to tie the score.

That brought Sitzman up to the plate with the bases loaded and still nobody out and the game tied. He lined one into left center for the game-winning hit, plating Richter and sending the Billiken bench into a frenzy while mobbing Sitzman between first and second base.

SLU utilized a four-run seventh inning to get back into the game. Back-to-back doubles by Fogarty and Richter, then an RBI single by Clohisy, provided the spark for the Bills in the inning.

Ben Cherico earned the win after tossing 1.2 scoreless innings and allowing just two hits. Caleb Thomson was effective on the mound in relief as well, going three innings and allowing just one run on two hits.

UMass starter Taylor Perrett held the Billikens at bay for the majority of the game. He didn't factor into the decision after allowing just three earned runs in 6.2 innings pitched while striking out five and walking none on the blustery afternoon.

SLU goes for the series sweep tomorrow in a noon first pitch at the Billiken Sports Center. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
