Saint Louis – The Billikens limited Dayton to just three hits, but Saint Louis dropped a 2-1 pitcher's duel today in the finale of the series on Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium.
Jackson Holmes paced the Billikens (23-14, 9-3 A10) as he went six innings, scattering two hits, allowing just one run.
Grant Fremion threw the final two innings and allowed just one hit and a run.
Offensively,
Cole Smith had the lone RBI as he went 2-for-4, while
Cameron Swanger had a pair of doubles and
Patrick Clohisy scored a run.
Ethan Sitzman and
Knox Preston had a hit each.
The Flyers (14-26, 7-5 A10) had three batters with a hit each.
Dayton got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first, but the Billikens tied it at one in the third after Smith's RBI up the middle, scoring Clohisy.
A late run in the eighth proved to be the game-winner for the Flyers.
The Billikens will be at home for a mid-week game at 5 pm on Tuesday against Western Illinois. SLU will be at VCU next weekend for a three-game A10 set starting on Friday at 5 pm.
