GAME RESULT
Saint Louis 2, Saint Joseph's 1
Sunday, April 23, 2023
Merion Station, Pa.

THE BASICS
Saint Louis scored two runs in the third inning, and pitcher Chloe Wendling made them stand up for a 2-1 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over Saint Joseph's Sunday afternoon.

The Billikens (23-22, 15-4 A-10) registered an eighth consecutive win – one shy of tying the school record – and remained in second place in the A-10 behind Dayton (14-3). Among those eight straight victories are four by a one-run margin.

SLU has swept three consecutive conference series.

Wendling chalked up her league-leading 18th win in the circle, tying the second-highest single-season total in Billiken softball history. Brianna Lore (2014) holds the record of 25 victories.

HOW IT HAPPENED
•Gabbie Kowalik's RBI triple plated the first run in the Saint Louis third, and she later scored on a wild pitch.
•Saint Joseph's scored its only run, an unearned tally, in the sixth.
•The Hawks had the tying run at second base with one out in the seventh, but Wendling retired the final two batters to nail down the win.

BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Wendling struck out three and yielded just three hits and one walk.
•Kowalik added a single for a two-hit game.
•Kelsey Etling, Ashley Marietta and Cami Newbanks collected a single apiece.
