Saint Louis – Cole Smith had five RBIs, and a home run, while
Henry Litman went six innings for the win and the Billikens disposed of Fordham 9-2 in the series opener tonight inside the Billiken Sports Center.
Tomorrow's game between the two teams has been pushed up to a noon start. Senior Day festivities will begin at 11:30 am.
The Billikens (28-21, 13-9 A-10) scored early and often as SLU plated three runs in the first and two in the third to open an early lead.
Smith led the way, going 2-for-5 with five RBIs, a homer and a run scored.
Patrick Clohisy went 2-for-3 with four runs scored, a pair of stolen bases and an RBI.
Ethan Sitzman scored a pair, while
Hayden Moore scored once, as well.
Cam Redding finished with an RBI and a run scored.
Litman went six innings, scattering six hits and striking out three, while allowing just one run.
Jack Weber threw two innings of relief, while
Evan Gray struck out a pair in one inning.
Fordham (19-34, 7-15 A-10) had three hits from Peter DeMaria and two from Ryan Thiesse.
Clohisy started the scoring with an RBI single in the first to score Moore and Redding then singled home Sitzman. Smith finished the three-run first with a sacrifice fly to score Clohisy.
The Rams scored a run in the second, but the Bills answered back with a two-run bomb from Smith to score Clohisy. Smith then singled home Clohisy in the fifth to make it 6-1 SLU.
The Rams added a run in the seventh, before the Billikens answered back with three in the bottom half on RBIs from Smith,
Knox Preston and
Cameron Swanger.
The two teams are back at it tomorrow. First pitch is slated for noon with Senior Day Festivities set for 11:30 am.
