Saint Louis – Ethan Sitzman drove in three, while Hayden Moore and Cole Smith had three hits each and the Billikens evened up the series with a 9-6 win today inside the Billiken Sports Center.
SLU (26-17, 11-6 A-10) was led by Moore who went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and a double, while Sitzman drove in three with a pair of hits. Smith went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, while Tyler Fogarty, Patrick Clohisy, Knox Preston and Austin Neuweg had a hit each.
Owen Chaffin started and went five innings, striking out three to pick up the win and move to 5-1 on the season. Jack Weber threw the final four innings and struck out two to pick up his second save of the season.
GW (18-29, 7-9 A-10) was led by Steve DiTomaso who hit for the cycle going 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
The Billikens scored three in the first when Smith started it with an RBI single to left, scoring Fogarty and Cameron Swanger. Preston hit a sacrifice fly to score Smith and give the Bills a 3-0 lead after two.
The Colonials answered with two in the third, but an RBI single from Sitzman scoring Moore gave the Billikens a 4-2 lead.
Both teams scored in the fifth with SLU getting an RBI from Cam Redding to score Moore. It was Redding's 153rd career RBI, moving him into a tie for fourth in the all-time RBI list at SLU.
The Colonials scored in the top half of the seventh, but the Billikens answered again with an RBI from Clohisy to score Moore to make it 6-4 after seven.
SLU added three insurance runs in the eighth when Neuweg doubled home Smith and Sitzman added an RBI single up the middle, scoring Moore and Preston.
The two teams will finish out the series tomorrow with a noon first pitch.
