LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Saint Louis fell 3-1 against Bellarmine on Friday at Trager Stadium at the University of Louisville. It was the season opener for both squads.
After a scoreless first half that saw SLU outshoot the Knights 4-2, Bellarmine got on the board with a tally in the 33rd minutes. Ten minutes later, Paige Hoyer scored the first of her two scores of the match to put Bellarmine ahead 2-0.
Olivia Smith trimmed the Bills' deficit to one with her fifth career goal, which came in the 49th minute. The goal came on a penalty corner, with Josefina Perez earning the assist.
Bellarmine, however, responded a few minutes later with a goal and the Knights hung on for the 3-1 victory.
The Billikens out-cornered the Knights 8-5, while Bellarmine had a slight 11-10 edge in shots.
SLU returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Bryant at Sportport International for the Bills' home opener. Game time is scheduled for noon.
