MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – Saint Louis received goals from Shaya Dry and Brooke Mason in a narrow 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Towson Tigers Friday at SportPort International.
The Bills fall to 0-3 on the season, while Towson improves to 2-1.
All of the scoring occurred in the first 20 minutes of action. Towson got it started with a goal in the sixth minute, but SLU quickly answered when Shaya Dry scored an unassisted goal on a breakaway in the eighth minute.
The Tigers regained the lead late in the first quarter when Sarah Hatfield tallied twice, making it 3-1 Towson.
Brooke Mason trimmed the Billiken deficit to just one when she scored her second goal of the season in the 21st minute. She deflected an Ava Calma entry into the circle past the Towson goalie to make it 3-2 Tigers.
That ended up being the final score. It was a wild fourth quarter as two Tigers were issued yellow cards a few seconds apart, forcing Towson to play two women down the last five minutes. The Tigers held the SLU attack at bay and escaped SportPort with the win.
Kerri O'Donnell and Kendyl Underwood split time in the cage. Underwood recorded six saves in the second half. Mason led the SLU offense with three shots.
The Bills are back in action on Monday when they take on Lindenwood at SportPort International. Game time is 1 p.m.
