MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Back in action at the Chippewa Invitational, the Billikens split its matches against Bradley and Central Michigan, earning a four-set win over the Braves before dropping a close, five-set match to the Chippewas Friday night.

MATCH DETAILS
- After dropping the first set to an undefeated Bradley team, the Billikens rattled off wins in sets two, three and four to win the match
- SLU's win over Bradley delivered the Braves their first loss of the 2023 season.
- The Billikens hit .286 on the match, hitting a high of .382 in the third set.
- After recording 12 kills in the opening set, SLU tallied 16, 17 and 17 in the remaining three sets to win the match.
- SLU's final set was marked by a 4-0 run to give the Billikens an 11-8 lead. SLU did not trail for the rest of the set, earning a 3-1 victory.
MATCH 2 DETAILS
- The Billikens got off to a slow start in their second match of the day, dropping the first two sets to tournament host, Central Michigan.
- Despite a 6-0 run at the end of the first set to lessen a 9-point deficit, the Billikens dropped set one to the Chippewas.
- A 4-0 run in set three helped the Billikens pull away, earning the win to bring the match score to 2-1 in favor of Central Michigan.
- SLU got off to a hot start in the fourth, marked by a 5-0 run to give the Billikens an 8-3 advantage early in the set.
- Despite overcoming a two-set deficit, SLU dropped the final set (15-9) and match (3-2) to the tournament host.
MATCH 1 NOTABLES
- Delaney Rice had a successful outing for the Billikens, hitting .324 for 15 kills on 34 attempts. She also added three service aces.
- Three Billikens hit for double digit kills in the win over Bradley with Emily Henken (17) Rice (15) and Jillian Mattingly (11) leading the Billikens' attack.
- Carlie Rodgers added a career-high seven assists in the win, along with a season-high 19 digs.
MATCH 2 NOTABLES
- Emily Henken led SLU in kills for the second straight match with 16.
- Three Billikens reached double digit kills with Henken (16), Jillian Mattingly (11) and Trinity Luckett (10) leading SLU.
- SLU held the slight advantage in hitting percentage in the match hitting .179 while holding the Chippewas to .172.
