MUNCIE, Ind. – Saint Louis got a goal by
Brooke Mason early in the fourth quarter to tie the score, but Ball State scored in the 52nd minute to post a 2-1 victory over the visiting Billikens Sunday at the Briner Sports Complex in Muncie, Indiana.
The Billikens fall to 1-6 on the season. All but two SLU losses have come by one goal. Ball State improves to 3-4.
The Cardinals opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Michaela Graney notched a goal off a penalty corner. The score remained 1-0 through halftime and through the third quarter.
The Bills found the scoreboard in the 47th minute when Mason tallied her second of the year after a great individual effort. She accepted a pass from
Abby Vidas and brought the ball around two defenders and into the circle, then fired to the far post and past the Ball State goalie to make it a 1-1 game.Â
But Ball State would answer with the game-winner a few minutes later. Leading scorer Fleur Knopert she created a scoring chance after accepting a pass on the endline, maneuvered into the circle, and put one past the SLU goalie in the 52nd minute to hand Ball State the 2-1 victory.
The Billikens return to Atlantic 10 Conference play next Saturday (Sept. 23) when they take on the Richmond Spiders in Virginia.
