ST. LOUIS –
Carlie Rodgers posted a match-high 24 digs and
Trinity Luckett swatted a team-high 14 kills, but Davidson claimed a 3-1 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over Saint Louis Friday evening at Chaifetz Pavilion.
Luckett hit .423 (14-3-26) and delivered a match-high six blocks.
Kayla Jansen (10-1-18) and
Delaney Rice (10-3-22) hit .500 and .318, respectively, as the Billikens turned in a .264 team mark.
Abby Lynn had a team-high 27 assists.
Davidson def. Saint Louis 26-24, 25-17, 16-25, 25-16
Set 1 – Saint Louis led by five points on three occasions in the early going before Davidson pulled in front 17-15 with a 13-6 run. The Billikens outscored the Wildcats 9-5 to earn set point at 24-22, but Davidson rattled off four straight points to take a 1-0 match lead.
Set 2 – Although Davidson led throughout after scoring the first point, the set remained close. SLU trailed just 14-13 midway through the frame, but Davidson closed with an 11-4 flurry.
Set 3 – After the Wildcats jumped out to a 5-2 advantage, the Billikens inched their way back to forge a 6-6 tie. The set was deadlocked four more times before Saint Louis went on top for good at 11-10. The lead swung between one and three points until a 9-1 finishing surge put the Bills back into the match.
Set 4 – Once again, Davidson led from start to finish. SLU narrowed the gap to two points, 17-15, after trailing by as many as five, but the visitors clinched the match with an 8-1 run.
The Billikens and Wildcats meet again Saturday at 2 p.m.
